A brief history of The Firefly Magazine.
The Fire-Fly was the official magazine of Newcastle High School. First "conducted" in 1880, it was published once or twice a year until 1983.
Below is an extract from the March 1880 Edition.
The Archives holds a complete run of magazines, in bound volumes before 1946 and loose and bound editions to 1981.

A rival, the Mayfly, was "conducted" by the boarders under the direction of A K "Jake" Barton. There just two issues, May 1936 and 1937. They were published to raise money for the Swimming Baths Appeal. Both survive in the Archive. We are very grateful to Graham Jones, former Head of Geography and current volunteer archivist at Newcastle-under-Lyme School, who has put together the content for these features.
